Strong Sense of Place
In Episode 95, we explore how the places we write from and about can add such beautiful depth to our stories. We want to stay alert to the details of our surroundings, and we are interested in how other people choose to do the same. Our guests Jenna Brack, Stacy Bronec, and Jodie Toresdahl live and have lived in different parts of the country and the world and all three women write with such a strong sense of place. We hope our conversations with them will help you pay attention to the details of your own lives and inspire you to bring those observations into your own creative work.
Bio:
Jenna Brack is the author of Pass-Through Place (forthcoming from Meadowlark Press), a collection of essays shaped by growing up in central Kansas. Her essays and poetry have been featured in Every Day Poems, Coffee + Crumbs, Fathom, The Sunlight Press, and others. A former educator and college instructor, Jenna now encourages other writers through editing and coaching. She holds an MA in English from Kansas State University and currently lives with her family in Germany. You can find her occasionally writing online at Substack or Instagram.
Stacy Bronec is an accidental farm girl, wife, mom, and writer whose work explores the seasons of motherhood, marriage, and farm life. Stacy lives with her husband and three kids on their family farm & ranch in rural Montana. Her essays have been featured on Coffee + Crumbs, Motherly, Trailblazher magazine, and she’s a contributing author to So God Made a Grandma. You can keep up with Stacy’s writing on her Substack, Planting Season.
Jodie Toresdahl is a Montana girl at heart, currently living in Salt Lake City. She and her family have also put down roots in Seattle and New York City and will forever consider both places home. She holds an MFA in Creative Writing from Seattle Pacific University. After teaching for a decade, she chose to stay home with her two children, loving the flexibility that brings to her family and her ability to write what and when she wants. Jodie loves going to concerts & museums just as much as she loves trail running and skiing. Her writing primarily focuses on the joy and heartache of everyday life.
