Every great story is built one sentence at a time. In this two-hour workshop, we’ll dive into the power of the sentence—looking closely at how great memoir and essay writers craft lines that stick with us. Through lively discussion and close reading, you’ll practice “reading like a writer,” uncovering what makes sentences shine and learning how to bring those moves into your own work.

Come with a work in progress and three sentences you’re ready to play with. Together, we’ll write, share, and revise—so you leave not just with stronger sentences, but with fresh strategies and inspiration for everything you write next.

Participants are encouraged, but not required to take this workshop as a part of a series with “Immersive Scenes” on October 5th and “Do Tell” on October 26th.

When: Sunday, September 14th at 7-9pm ET

What participants can expect: 2-hour Zoom call with link for replay

Goal
: Exploring the craft of the sentence in memoir and essay writing.

Workshop Outline:

  • Examine how master writers craft memorable sentences

  • Identify techniques that make sentences shine

  • Practice applying observed techniques to your own writing

This course will run with a minimum of 6 participants.

I want to be in that class please!”

“Adrienne is an engaging, excellent teacher. Her courses are such a rich experience!”

“Adrienne does a wonderful job. The quality of her workshops and content is excellent!”
