From Start to Finish

$195.00

From start to finish is a flexible, three-session essay writing workshop with private 1-to-1 coaching plus an optional round of final copy edits. $195+ $50 (optional copy edits for up to 2,000 words)

Each session will last up to one hour and will place over Google Meet or Zoom.

This workshop is for you if you want coaching, clarity and a creative collaborator to help bring your work from a spark of an idea to a finished essay.

Session One: The Spark
In this first call, we’ll talk all about your ideas and the story (or stories) you want to tell. Together, gather materials (glimpses, details, vignettes) and lay the groundwork for your preliminary rough draft. At the end of this call, you’ll schedule session two.

Session Two: The Structure
With your preliminary rough draft in hand, we’ll explore ways to organize and structure the essay to best showcase your story. We’ll use this time to troubleshoot any place you’re feeling stuck and identify themes to expand on or sections to cut. Think of this session as a collaborative shaping of your essay—we’ll dive into the messy middle, and you’ll leave with clear next steps for a second draft. At this time, we’ll schedule session three.

Session Three: The Shimmer
In this final collaborative session, we’ll reflect on your unique writing process, voice, and angle. We’ll explore opportunities to add (or subtract) dialogue and detail to make your piece sparkle.

*Option to add a Final Copy Edit (up to 2,000 words) with Ruth: $50

This workshop would also be suitable for high school students working on their Common Application essays.

Dates: Ongoing!
