November: Mellifluous

Sweetly or smoothly flowing; sweet-sounding—also meaning filled with honey or sweetened
— Definition of Mellifluous

My mornings begin unlike most. I have a child who likes to practice their cello in the morning—and it’s delightful.

She’s so unlike me in many ways—early bird, extraordinarily talented, and so cheery in the morning. Meanwhile, I’m an old owl who’s under-eye bags sag until at least my first cup of coffee. But this all changed when she decided to practice her songs in the morning.

Now I wake up to sweet tones. Do I wonder how long this season will last? Absolutely. I don’t want to end. It’s so sweet—and I think of a number of other things that are just as sweet.

This month, think of the sweet things in your every day. Whether it’s baby giggles, the verbal acknowledgment from a tween boy, or lingering hugs from your child, it’s all so sweet. Or maybe there’s a sound that follows you—whether a song or quote that is so beautifully sweet you don’t want to let it go. Give it a moment of honor—rejoice in how mellifluous it truly is.
