Podcast: Encouraging Creativity In Yourself And Your Children
L.L. Barkat is an author, poet, publisher, and mother. She’s the author of six books for grown-ups, including Rumors of Water: Thoughts on Creativity & Writing and her latest, a fairytale called The Golden Dress. She’s the founder and managing editor of Tweetspeak Poetry and TS Poetry Press which published our very own Callie Feyen’s Teacher Diaries: Romeo & Juliet earlier this year. If you’re not sure where to start in nurturing your own creativity, Laura’s prompt for us all was to take 15 minutes today, everyday for a week, or even for a year and go sit outside. Allow other people to step in and step up to create a little space for you to care for yourself. And if you’re already great at making space but feel a little stuck in your creativity, grab a kid’s book or book of poetry in another language and see if flipping through it doesn’t inspire something in you.
Don’t forget to try a freewrite on Instagram this summer! Follow C+C on Instagram for the latest prompt. Tag your micro-essays with #writeasummerstory in the months of June and July for a chance to have your work featured in the C+C feed.
